It’s Almost Conference Time

The spring is a big time for conferences. Especially those about Teaching and Learning. Why not sign up to present at one or register to attend? Conferences can be a great experience to learn about what is happening in the field of Higher Education and how to play an active role in making academic teaching an important part of a university experience. You also get to meet lots of new people (which means making contacts), enjoy a new city, learn about what great ideas other GAs, TAs, and professors are doing that might benefit your students and/or your classroom, and share your expertise (yes, you do have that).

Now if you are new to the whole conference scene how do you get involved? What conferences are worthwhile to attend? Fill us in so that your fellow GAs and TAs can be on their way towards better teaching!

A great (and convenient) place to start is the joint Windsor-Oakland conference coming up May 19-20, 2011 to be held here at the University of Windsor. This year’s theme is “Moving Beyond the Traditional Classroom: Engaging Students Through Experience!” Have a look at the conference site and the call for papers, open until February 18, 2011. Don’t be bashful; come and share what you’ve been doing this year and what you’ve learned. Who knows? You might learn something yourself.

Excited about other conferences? Not sure how to put together a proposal or abstract? Leave a question (or an answer) in the comments below.
