Creating Accessible Digital Content (First Offering)

Schedule: Tuesday, January 28, 2020, 09:00 AM – 11:00 AM

This workshop is open to faculty and staff only.

Ensuring that your digital content is accessible is essential in order for persons with disabilities to be able to access and use documents/information via adaptive/assistive technology. The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), 2005 sets standards that organizations must follow to enhance accessibility. This session will provide a basic guide and checklist of things to consider when you are creating documents (PDF, Word), websites and other forms of digital content.

UWinsite Student – Academic Advisement: Tools to Assist Students Through Their Academic Journey (First Offering)

This workshop is open to faculty and staff only and is geared to faculty and staff who have access to UWinsite Student – Student Advisement Module.

Within UWinsite Student, Academic Advisement tracks the requirements and policies that a student must satisfy for degree completion. This hands-on session will provide an overview of the Academic Advisement tools available to advisers when helping students through their academic journey, including: Student Service Centre, Advisement Reports, What-If Reports, and Student Exceptions process.

Policy Development at UWindsor (Second Offering)

Location: Oak Room, Vanier Hall
This workshop is open to faculty and staff only and is geared to faculty and staff who are involved in the development of policies.

Policies guide an organization’s decision-making and bring consistency to those decisions. This session will provide an overview of the University’s revised Policy on Policy Administration and the new Policy template. Participants will be introduced to the new Central Policies website designed to house all Senate and Board bylaws and policies, and other campus-wide policies approved by Senior Administration. The session will also highlight best practices for writing effective policies.

Attending university is an exciting and dynamic experience but can also be a time of significant challenges. Students frequently turn to faculty and staff to obtain advice and support. This session will explore the signs and potential indicators that a student may be struggling, techniques you can use to help students in that moment, knowing how and where to make a referral, and the many new resources available to support faculty, staff, and students.

Supporting and Enhancing Student Accessibility on Campus (Second Offering)

This workshop is open to faculty and staff only.

The Ontario Human Rights Code guarantees the right to equal treatment in education, without discrimination on the ground of disability. Post-secondary institutions must ensure that students who require accommodations because of their disabilities are accommodated to the point of undue hardship. This session will provide an overview of services provided by Student Accessibility Services, applicable policies, and the key role faculty and staff play in collaborative problem-solving to identify potential accommodation solutions and enhance the student experience.

FIPPA – Access and Privacy Requirements (Second Offering)

This workshop is open to faculty and staff only.

The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) provides a public right of access to institutional records and regulates how public institutions manage personal information. This session will provide an overview of FIPPA’s access provisions with a focus on the University's privacy obligations, tips on how to manage records, and processes for dealing with breaches of privacy.

This workshop is open to faculty and staff only and is geared to faculty and staff who have access to UWinsite Student – Student Records Module.

Student Records is the backbone of UWindsor’s new student information system, UWinsite Student. This hands on session will highlight how to navigate and interpret the course catalogue, help students enroll in courses, use class permissions, input final grades, enter grade changes and provide an overview of the grade appeals process.
