Office of Open Learning: Workshops

A one-stop shop for all your open learning needs

Welcome! Please log in.

Please join us for informal discussion on teaching with digital technologies and innovative pedagogies. Our Community of Practice (CoP) sessions bring together faculty, staff, and graduate student instructors who share an interest in teaching with digital technology. We meet once or twice a month (over coffee!).

Each month, we invite colleagues--faculty, staff, and graduate student instructors--to share their digital teaching practices to inspire you and enhance the quality of your students' learning experiences. In the spirit of openness, we extend invitations to colleagues from other institutions.

We encourage you to bring what you’re working on and share both challenges and successes with like-minded colleagues. Come learn something new and energize your teaching practice and student learning experiences in 2024!

Please register for each session. Feel free to bring a friend, too!

There is a contemporary focus in strengthening accountability and student supports in higher education in the province of Ontario. We invited Kaitlyn Karns from the School of Creative Arts to share findings from her M.Ed. thesis. Her mixed-method study investigated institutional factors that might impact a student's decision to continue studies after completing of an undergraduate study in the arts.
The existing literature examines many recurring factors influencing a student's choices post-baccalaureate. Factors such as socioeconomic status, institutional characteristics, and student experience are studied mostly in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs, leaving a gap in the literature studying students in the humanities. Kaitlyn will present highlights of findings from analyses of online survey data collected from students in the Faculty of Education, along with her personal experiences and point of view.
