Managing Your Assessment Workload

Participants brought their lunch and shared strategies and challenges with their colleagues. How can you find out what students are learning? How can you do it in a reasonable number of hours? What has worked for other people? These questions were discussed and explored. In addition, resources related to assessment were reviewed.

Time is the ultimate, non-renewable scarce resource - particularly for those of us who teach AND do research. This "brown-bag" session was a focused facilitated discussion to help provide some practical and adaptable techniques for improving the productivity of time spent on research and writing, teaching and marking, email and meetings. The aim was to help advance professional goals without sacrificing overall work-life balance and well-being.

Are you thinking about using an iPad in your academic work in or out of the classroom? If you have an iPad, are you using it to its full potential? Come join in the conversation with colleagues who have an iPad and want to share their tips and techniques with you. We will demonstrate some of the popular and not so well known apps. Some of them have a fee and some are free.

We will also talk about useful settings, updating your software, connecting to other devices, sharing data with the cloud and password protecting the device. Bring your lunch and iPad (if you have one) or just come and see if an iPad is something you should invest in.

Are you thinking about using an iPad in your academic work in or out of the classroom?
During this session, you will be introduced to the iPad and learn about some basic functions, settings and applications. You do not need to have prior experience using an iPad to join in this session. There will be a limited number of iPads available to try if you don't have your own device, therefore registration in advance is required. Please bring your own lunch or snack to the session.

Also, one faculty member who has had success using the iPad as a remote to run her presentation from during class, will share her techniques with the group. Join us at an informal lunchtime session where you get to be the star, or listen to your colleagues share their tips and tricks about using iPads to enhance their teaching and learning practices.

One of the featured attendees, is Martin Vaughn from the CTL who will share how to use the desktop and remote sharing application "Splashtop" to project what's on your iPad to the computer console and attached projector. Also, he will share how to use the iPad as a teleprompter when making videos and document management to and from the iPad using "Dropbox."

Please bring your own iPad, and brown-bag lunch to the session. Also, if you have an iPad topic that you think might be useful for fellow attendees, please email ctlevents@uwindsor.ca with your idea that you would be willing to share with the group.
