University Teaching Practicum

Registration for this event is now closed.
Schedule: January 10 – April 11, 2013,
Thursdays, 05:00 PM – 08:00 PM
except February 21, 2013
(list dates)
Location: Assumption University Rm 313
Instructors: Pierre Boulos

Course code: 05-80-519 (26)

This course takes a learning-community approach to teaching development and as such, much of the content will be driven by you, the learners. You will be expected to come prepared to contribute to the learning of our community by participating in and facilitating discussions of challenges faced in higher education. As graduates of the FUT Certificate, it will be expected that you come to the course with some understanding of basic principles of higher education, and we will cover many of these in more depth. The course also provides you with the opportunity to build on and apply your learning from the first certificate, as well as the other courses in the second level, to your own teaching.

While enrolled in the course you will be observed in teaching settings (broadly defined) multiple times by your instructors and colleagues. Each observation will be followed by feedback, including suggestions for improvement. Weekly meetings will address teaching and learning issues, topics, and concerns that have been identified by the class. Students will facilitate or co-facilitate sessions on topics of interest. These meetings will also discuss the feedback you’ve received, plan strategies to build on your strengths and address your challenges.
