So, your time as a GA/TA is almost complete and you’re beginning to plan for your future career. Don’t panic, there is good news! As a teaching assistant, you have developed a number of important transferable skills. The trick is identifying these, and articulating them to employers in ways that they will understand and appreciate. In this interactive workshop, participants will work to identify the valuable skills obtained through their teaching experiences and how to communicate these to potential employers. Participants will also have an opportunity to develop and gain valuable feedback on aspects of their resumes and elevator pitches.

Labs and tutorials represent both a large percentage of an undergraduate science students’ class time and an opportunity to concretize and clarify concepts from readings and lectures. As a GA/TA, you will be an important contact for students as they navigate course material, but as a student yourself, you may not consider yourself an expert in the subject you are teaching. In this workshop, we will explore ways in which you can address and encourage questions from your students, even when you are not confident in your own knowledge and experience with the topic.
