Submitting to UWill Discover: Writing an Abstract, Original Work, or Artist Statement

Are you considering submitting to UWill Discover, the undergraduate conference exploring research, scholarship and creative activity? This interactive workshop is for all disciplines, and touches on all the basics of writing abstracts, and original work or artists statements. It will explore why we write these statements, what information to include, dos and don'ts, and tips for addressing the right audience.

After the workshop, there will be an opportunity to drop in, ask questions, and receive feedback from faculty and staff with experience from a variety of disciplines. Feel welcome to come and stay for both the workshop and drop-in, or just choose to participate in one.

There will be a drop-in session from 12:15-1:00 for those who would like to get some feedback and answers to questions they might have.

Are you considering submitting to UWill Discover, the undergraduate conference exploring research, scholarship and creative activity ? This interactive workshop is for all disciplines, and touches on all the basics of writing abstracts, and original work or artists statements. Would you hire you, if you googled yourself today? When you graduate, are you more than a collection of courses and a transcript? Join us to find out what tools and approaches can get you started and where help is available on campus. Specifically, find out about:
  • what an ePortfolio is and how it can help you brand yourself,
  • how to connect your personal and professional life,
  • the availability of and support for ePortfolio tools,
  • how you can use the powerful features within LinkedIn to build your online professional presence.
The session will provide an introduction to ePortfolios and a hands-on opportunity for building a LinkedIn profile. Those wanting to edit or launch LinkedIn profiles should bring a laptop to the workshop.

Was your submission accepted to UWill Discover, but you’re anxious or uncertain about how to present your work? This interactive workshop is for all disciplines and can help address your concerns. It focuses on developing effective communication strategies for presenting your submission, including important design considerations. The first part of the workshop will explore how to effectively communicate your ideas to a broad audience, and the second part of the workshop will explore design considerations for presenting your submission. The last portion of the workshop will include examples of effective presentations, including (but not limited to) oral presentations and poster presentations.
