Join us for summer sun and fun as we explore some of the basic yet critical questions in teaching and learning:

Students…

How do we get them here? How do we keep them here? How do we send them off having learned?

This year’s Summer Series on Teaching Learning takes place August 14-16, 2018. In these sessions, we will hear and challenge the different and often opposing perspectives of students and instructors on questions surrounding engagement, motivation, and assessment.

Teaching and learning research tells us that active teaching strategies are sure to lead to deep learning. What happens when this seemingly simple recipe falls apart?

In morning workshops, we’ll hear from students about their preferred teaching methods, why they might resist some and not others, and a few of the learning obstacles they’ve encountered. We’ll also hear from faculty about areas of tension they’ve faced in their teaching and activities they’ve used to support student learning.

Student Distractions: Who is Responsible for Engagement?

Registration for this event is now closed.
Schedule: Wednesday, August 15, 2018, 09:00 AM – 01:00 PM

Whether competing with social media, side conversations, or personal and professional obligations, instructors are having trouble keeping students’ attention. On the other hand, students are overwhelmed by workload demands and at the same, charting their careers and personal lives. Quite frankly, who is responsible for student engagement?

In this session, we’ll hear from both students and faculty about the types of activities they employ to meet this responsibility.
