Lectures are often considered unengaging and ineffective. However, if well planned and delivered, lectures can serve as an effective method to convey information and facilitate understanding. This workshop will introduce the basic skills and techniques for developing and executing an effective lesson plan. An emphasis will be placed on the use of active learning techniques to enhance student engagement and learning. Additional resources will also be provided to further aid your teaching practices.

Much of your work as a TA/GA will be to provide students with your evaluative judgements about their work. But, in addition to grading and providing effective feedback, you will also employ skills like time management, interpersonal communication with professors and students, and sound and critical judgement. This session will offer strategies to help you provide constructive, meaningful feedback aimed at helping students to improve. Participants will also be given tips on instructor and student correspondence, and be offered a practical opportunity to practice employing the strategies learned in this session.
