How do you actively engage your students? This session will explore how to design lessons and activities that encourage engagement. You will have a chance to examine intentional lesson planning, use of space and use of the technology in the classroom to enhance teaching, and student learning.

Workshop is to ensure that Sessional Instructors know how to design Learning Outcomes for their course outlines, in accordance with the new FASS regulation requiring the inclusion of Learning Outcomes. Members of the Faculty of Human Kinetics were given a demonstration of LectureTools software, highlighting the instructor features such as dashboard, student questions, student confusion, availability in CLEW, how to access and the pros / cons of the system. Members were also able to fully experience the system as a student and able to respond to the interactive questions using a variety of mobile devices.

In this session, the focus will be on an introduction to the online course design process for CEPE Additional Qualifications course developers. Topics covered included - active learning, backwards design, learning outcomes, authentic assessment, specifics related to the Ministry of Education course expectations, and universal instructional design.

This workshop covered topics related to engaging students with online technologies. Topics included: Engagement using LectureTools active learning online software, Introduction to Blackboard Learn, and Blackboard Collaborate, active learning with activities which defined active learning, and discussions to explore outcome driven lesson design utilizing appropriate technology.

The workshop will provide guidance on the fundamentals of developing learning outcomes in accordance with the degree level expectations and will be beneficial for:

• Department Heads, undergraduate and graduate program chairs and faculty members from all AAUs
• proponents of new program developments
• anyone involved in developing new or updating existing program or course level learning outcomes.

This will be a hands-on practice session - participants are encouraged to bring a description of the program/course as well as any existing materials they have so far (such as old course LOs).

CTL has designed this workshop and Dr. Julie Timmermans of the University of Waterloo will facilitate the introduction and application of the threshold concept. This portion of the workshop will occur in the morning. Ms Lorna Stolarchuk of CTL will facilitate the use of Blackboard Learn to implement an aligned assessment, which uses this technology to its full advantage. This portion of the workshop will occur in the afternoon to provide a completed project from the identification to the assessment of a threshold concept and its assessment using Blackboard Learn.

Dr. Kustra will be presenting strategies on how to deliver critical feedback to students in a manner that is constructive and more likely to be heard and utilized. While these strategies can be used in ongoing supervision, this session is timed to precede the mid-term evaluation.

We invite you to participate in a workshop designed for faculty in the Department of Economics on creating a Teaching Dossier to document your teaching for hiring, tenure, and promotion. Participants will explore the purpose and structure of a teaching dossier, how to draft a teaching philosophy and articulate teaching methods, and lay out evidence of teaching accomplishments.

As we prepare for winter, many instructors are moving back to campus. What does it mean to teach Face-to-Face (F2F) now? Business instructors will share practical lessons learned from teaching on campus this Fall, and we invite sharing strategies and asking questions.
