Designing Learning Modules for the Web - Physics Class Special Workshop

Elements of the BOPPPS learning module was discussed and explored during this specialized session, in addition to specialized web development tools and techniques available to learners on the Internet.

At the end of this session students were able to:

  • Outline steps in a planning process to design an online learning experience
  • Identify one or more tools or techniques that can be used in their web site

This training event for IT Services and Leddy Library student consultants discussed the types of technical issues that students can experience while using clickers in their classes. The software used for the clickers is Turning Point.
Topics covered included: - setting the correct frequency - checking the batteries - registering the clicker on the SIS - changing the frequency, and - what to do if all else fails.

Introduction to LectureTools - Human Kinetics

Members of the Faculty of Human Kinetics were given a demonstration of LectureTools software, highlighting the instructor features such as dashboard, student questions, student confusion, availability in CLEW, how to access and the pros / cons of the system. Members were also able to fully experience the system as a student and able to respond to the interactive questions using a variety of mobile devices.

The workshop will provide guidance on the fundamentals of developing learning outcomes in accordance with the degree level expectations and will be beneficial for:

  • Department Heads, undergraduate and graduate program chairs and faculty members from all AAUs
  • proponents of new program developments
  • anyone involved in developing new or updating existing program or course level learning outcomes.

This will be a hands-on practice session - participants are encouraged to bring a description of the program/course as well as any existing materials they have so far (such as old course LOs).

CTL has designed this workshop and Dr. Julie Timmermans of the University of Waterloo will facilitate the introduction and application of the threshold concept. This portion of the workshop will occur in the morning. Ms Lorna Stolarchuk of CTL will facilitate the use of Blackboard Learn to implement an aligned assessment, which uses this technology to its full advantage. This portion of the workshop will occur in the afternoon to provide a completed project from the identification to the assessment of a threshold concept and its assessment using Blackboard Learn.
